The Carroll forward was a second-team all-state selection in 2016, and Colvin said she was a big part of the success the Lady Dragons enjoyed this past season.
“Ally is incredibly athletic and is a pure finisher,” Colvin said. “She is gifted in many ways, but her competitive drive is what sets her apart.”
Griffin said she was pleased with how her team performed this past season, but added that it took a while before things clicked.
“This season went great,” Colvin said. “It took a couple of scrimmages and games for the team to gain a strong chemistry, but we eventually reached that. We went 23-2-0 in the entire season, we were district champions, and I think that is pretty amazing itself.
“Personally, I’d like to think that I made a tremendous change in the environment, which gave a positive vibe on the field, which also led me to my own success.”
Griffin set three school records this past season, including 49 goals, 11 game-winning goals, and 109 points for a season.
She also had 11 assists for the season.
Griffin, who also runs the 4x100 meter relay, 4x200 meter relay, 4x400 meter relay and high jump on the track and field team, is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athlete’s, and plans to join the Key Club this coming school year.
Griffin has some definite offseason plans, which she has already started to work on.
“The day school ended, I began to train with my club team called the Dallas Texans,” Griffin said. “I play ECNL, which stands for Elite Clubs National League. We recently competed in San Diego ... for regionals. From my individual performance, I was invited to the ECNL National Training Camp that will be held at the University of Portland in Portland, Ore. This invitational includes only the top 90 players across the country.”
To repeat upon the success the team enjoyed last season and hopefully advance a little further in the playoffs, Griffin said it will take a couple of things.
“We have to re-group with the loss of our seniors and the gain of our freshman to continue to grow and build our team back up to its strong foundation,” Griffin said. “This program has a plethora of talented players. I believe we already have the hard work and dedication. The key to our success this season is playing as a unit, never taking plays off, and fulfilling our individual roles on every part of the field.”
